Never got to race at Saddleback, it closed in 1984 due to financial troubles with insurance and land disputes. Located in the Santiago Canyon Hills of Irvine near Irvine Lake, Saddleback was started in 1968 and hosted many national "Trans-Am" races with legends like Danny "Magoo" Chandler, Bob "Hurricane" Hannah, Ken Howerton, Warren Reid, Jimmy Weinert, Jeff Ward, Rick Johnson, Ron Lechien, and Johnny "O'Show" O'mara. A few weeks back at the bar my buddy Jason and I started talking about the good ol' days of bmx and that led to him getting a bike, me diggin out my old one and him telling me I couldn't beat him in a bmx race. I was really inspired by this guy all suited up in route for Bolsa in the Mercedez with all his trophies in the back window, so know I've got one to mount on my dashboard!!
This place is... old motocross, old flat bottom race boats, heavy logs, boobs from the 60's, ice cold beer and occasionally some kustom paint. Sometimes it's cool, most of the time it's a drag. Cheers!
