Los Desperados Show @ Shelter

I had a blast, I'm really glad Tom put this group together and we were able to hang our pieces at Shelter. Thanks to everyone who made it out despite the rain, thanks to Tom for getting this all together, thanks to Graham for having us at Shelter, and thanks to Dano for sticking with it despite the feedback and noisy crowd and of course Ray B for laying it down!! Stay tuned for the next Desperados Show!!

FINSTRIPES

I looked around for a D fin or a Rake style fin that had a good 60's look for my traveling sled and The Skeg from Rainbow Fin Co seemed about as good as it gets for a box fin. The only color they had in stock was white with navy and black comp stripes. Not really anything that would match my board. So I decided to get it anyway and I'd hot coat it gray, pinstripe it and gloss it. After talking to Dano, I've realized I should have glossed it and then pinstriped it. Turns out resin and One Shot Strippers Paint don't mix so well. So I might just leave it as a sanded hot coat with pinstripes?

DanO's White Lotus No.2 was The Sh*t!!

Such a good show, I had to post more! Dano and The Juke Joint Freak Show were so boss, I have a video of them that I'm gonna get on here soon. I was really stoked to be a part of the show, photos don't lie! I was especially stoked on sharing a wall with Tom Vadakan and his bluesman series, its good to be around other people who dig the blues!!

DanO's White Lotus No.2 was The Sh*t!!

Here is more photos of the Dano show, his new noseglider is insane, super metal flake green with Rat Fink font and a Rat Fink laminate on the fin! The place was packed all night, Dano and the Juke Joint Freak Show jammed and were awesome and I met Nick from Thee Cormans, what a cool dude, they rocked as well. If you weren't there you missed out. The free beer and wine were flowing, something like 31 cases of beer and 6 cases of wine were gone in a flash!

Dano's WHITE LOTUS SHOW No.2!!

I'm honored to be a part of Dano's White Lotus Show No.2, I have a lot of respect for him as a shaper and an all around rad dude!! Please come help him celebrate 20 years of shaping and here him open for Thee Cormans with his new band The Juke Joint Freak Show at the Hurley Factory in Costa Mesa, June 12th.

Purple Cat Fin

There is a lot of fiberglass fins on the market and very few I dig. I needed a fin for the 10'9" step deck/pin tail that I shaped. I wanted something with rake since my last 2 boards have had pivot style D fins. I wanted something similar to the Da Cat fin on the board that Greg Noll made for Dora or the fin that Dano makes for the Los Creeper. I also wanted to make it purple because whens the last time you've seen a purple fin? I cut out 35 sheets of 6 oz. cloth and mixed up some laminating resin with magenta tint. I laid up 15 sheets before I decided that I wanted a white center. So I laid up 5 sheets with white resin before going back purple. All in all there is 35 sheets of 6 oz. cloth. Some sanding and foiling and I'm stoked, a burly 11" tall fin for the mega sled!! Now...what to paint on it?!

Friday Night Blues

When I was new to the blog scene I didn't know how to get youtube videos up on my blog and I got all bent outta shape cuz it was the morning after I saw Dano and Tom along with the rest of the Jive Kings play at Henessey's in Dana Point for Surfrider's, Save Trestles Fund Raiser and I found this video on youtube that morning and couldn't get it loaded, so here it is now a few months late, but non the less, here for your stoke.
